English SIR

ECORREGION COFFEE AXIS EC:Ecorregion EC is a territory conformed by five departments: Caldas, Quindio, Risaralda, Tolima and Valle del Cauca, in the Ecorregion stand out regional and national strategic ecosystems among them the natural national parks, some protected areas and river basinsof great importance for the region.Ecorregion EC is a region conformed by three great environmental structures which serve as axes:

  • The environmental structure of the Central Mountain range: beginning in the Sonson Desert in the southeast of Antioquia, border with Caldas, continuing with the Deserts of San Felix in Caldas and the Natural National Park Los Nevados shared by Caldas, Risaralda, Quindio and Tolima, extending towards the south by the Desert of Chili in the municipality of Genova (Quindio) and culminating in the Natural National Park the Beautiful ones in the Valle del Cauca.
  • The environmental structure of the Western Mountain range: beginning in the Natural National Park Las Orquideas in the southeast of Antioquia, continuing with the Blade of San Juan, Natural National Park Tatama and mountain chain of the Serrania del Paraguas in Risaralda and North of the Valle del Cauca, culminating with the National Park the Farallones in the Valle del Cauca.
  • The environmental structure of the Cauca river: great fluvial axis and seat of populations due to the fertility of its grounds.The main hydrographic river basins of the Coffee Axis (rivers La Vieja, Risaralda, Chinchina, among others) are tributary of the Cauca river.

The territorial structure of the Coffee Axis implies relations of vicinity, connectivity and continuity with Choco in the west, the valley of Magdalena in the east, Antioquia in the north and Valle del Cauca and Colombian Macizo in the south.The region is located in the center of the triangle of Bogota - Cali – Medellin, into this important economic triangle, the Coffee Axis, with only the 2,4% of the national territory, generates 9% of the gross internal product of the country, produces 58% of cofee production and 9% of the added value national.

REGIONAL INFORMATION SYSTEM SIR

The SIR is the Information System of the Ecorregion Coffee Axis.

SIR’s Mission:To satisfy the necessities with opportune and reliable information for the sustainable development of the ecorregion coffee axis.The SIR is a distributed system which works with five departmental nodes.

SIR’s Vision:In 2010 the SIR is will generate added value of the information through the five departmental nodes and a central node, and it will have been fortified as regional infrastructure of spatial data with national and international recognition.Servant SIR is a valid node of the Federal Committee of Geographic Data (FGDC Clearinghouse Registry) for interchange of geograph, metadata and geographic information.The SIR joins the information of metadata available within the world-wide network of geodata Clearinghouse.

SIG GUADUA is a distributed system, designed in order to allow access, requests and distribution of structured and standardized data among the different users who conform SIG GUADUA, defining administrative procedures to guarantee an agile and efficient flow of the information around that resource, GUADUA.

This system stands out the culture of coffee in de EC: customs, coffee production, maps of the region and so on.

About agreements advanced with institutions of national order:

  • Interinstitutional Agreement celebrated among ISA, ECOPETROL, CARDER, CRQ, CORPOCALDAS, CVC, CORTOLIMA and “ALMA MATER”, for the implementation of the Infrastructure of Spatial data of the Coffee Axis.
  • Interinstitutional agreement with the Geographic Institute Agustin Codazzi IGAC for the delivery and beginning of operations of an antenna of global positioning GPS for ground control of rises GPS in the Ecorregion.
  • Agreement of cooperation efforts between the Ministry of the Culture and SIR for the information exchange on Ecorregion EC and generation of strategies for the information management.

About the agreements advanced with international institutions:

  • Agreement with United Nations: the UN, with the purpose of establishing a strategy and information management which allows to produce and spread geographic information about: demography, socioeconomic vulnerability, humanitarian situation, risk, and to support the elaboration and diffusion of the Humanitarian Attention Plan.

The SIR makes available for the community, several tools for consulting the information of Ecorregion Coffee Axis and to integrate it in the development of own projects for the benefit of the community.Through query tools on line, users access the information directly from their browsers:

  • Servant of Maps catalogued according to thematic contents.
  • Catalogue of Metadatos of the information available at the SIR.
  • Alphanumeric data bases with information thematic of Ecorregion.
  • Specialized consultation.
  • Distribution of Geographic Information on Internet allowing integration in real time of dispersed clients anywhere in the world with servers of data and applications.
  • WMS services of geographic information of the Ecorregion Coffee Axis.
  • ArcIMS services of environmental geographic information of the Ecorregion Coffee Axis.
